Used Oil EPR: What Lubricant Producers and Importers Must Do
26 June 2026
EPR for used oil is one of India's newest waste-stream obligations. Introduced by the Hazardous & Other Wastes (Management & Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2023, it commenced on 1 April 2024 and runs on a dedicated CPCB portal.
Who is covered?
- Producers of base oil and lubricating oil
- Importers of used / waste oil
- Brand owners of automotive and industrial oils
The obligation
Covered businesses must meet annual recycling targets for used oil by purchasing EPR certificates from registered recyclers, ensuring environmentally sound management. Registration, target mapping and returns are all handled through the CPCB used-oil EPR portal.
Registration & filing
- Register on the CPCB used-oil EPR portal
- Map year-wise recycling targets
- Procure EPR certificates from registered recyclers
- File quarterly and annual returns
Because the framework is new, documentation and target interpretation trip up many producers. GreenLoop keeps your used-oil EPR accurate from registration through returns.
