Importing into India: LMPC, BIS & WPC Compliance Checklist

Bringing products into India involves a stack of registrations beyond customs clearance. Which ones apply depends on what you import, but most importers touch several of the following.

IEC & AD Code

The Import Export Code (IEC) from DGFT is mandatory for any import/export activity, and an Authorised Dealer (AD) Code from your bank must be registered at each port to clear shipments and receive benefits.

LMPC (Legal Metrology)

If you import pre-packaged commodities, LMPC registration under Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 is required, along with the mandatory declarations (MRP, quantity, importer details) on every package.

BIS (ISI / CRS)

Many products fall under mandatory BIS certification — ISI marking for some categories and the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) for electronics and IT goods. Foreign manufacturers use the FMCS route.

WPC / ETA (wireless products)

Devices with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or other radio modules in de-licensed bands need Equipment Type Approval (ETA) from the WPC Wing via the Saral Sanchar portal, supported by RF test reports.

  • IEC + AD Code in place
  • LMPC for pre-packaged goods
  • BIS (ISI / CRS / FMCS) where the product is notified
  • WPC / ETA for any wireless functionality
  • RCMC if claiming export-promotion benefits

GreenLoop runs this whole checklist for importers — from IEC and AD Code to LMPC, BIS and WPC — so your products clear and sell without compliance surprises.
